About InsightLab

InsightLab is a product studio. Not a platform, not a single-product company, not a consultancy. A small, focused lab that builds one product at a time, each solving a specific gap between raw data and human understanding.

The Story

I'm Gert Schepens. I'm a Product Owner, Agile Manager, and Linux specialist based in Lede, Belgium. I run DGTL bv, my own consulting company, and I build products that solve problems I've experienced firsthand.

InsightLab started in May 2026 when I got my blood test results back. The PDF sat on my desktop for three days before I opened it — not because I was scared of the results, but because I knew understanding them meant committing to a half-hour of detective work.

That gap between "here's your data" and "here's what it means" became Blood, the first product under the InsightLab umbrella. And InsightLab became the philosophical home for Blood and whatever comes next.

The Philosophy

Every InsightLab product is built on three non-negotiable principles:

Privacy by Architecture

Health data is special category data under GDPR Article 9. That means privacy can't be a policy — it has to be enforced by the architecture itself. Your data stays on your device unless it absolutely must be processed, and when it is, it's done in Europe under strict compliance.

EU Data Residency

European users deserve European infrastructure. All InsightLab products run on AWS eu-west-3 (Paris), with AI providers covered by EU DPA agreements. No transatlantic data trips.

AI as Translator

AI explains context, not prescriptions. It amplifies human judgment, doesn't replace it. Every InsightLab tool is educational, not diagnostic.

The Approach

I build in public. That means:

  • Transparent development: The DevLog series documents real challenges, failures, and solutions
  • Open architecture: Technical decisions are documented and defensible
  • User-driven iteration: Features come from feedback, not roadmap speculation
  • Privacy-first by default: No third-party analytics, no cookies unless necessary
